Legal Aid of Western Michigan (LAWM) is a nonprofit law firm that provides advice, brief services and representation to low-income persons. LAWM’s practice areas include housing, family law, public benefits defense, consumer cases, and education. LAWM serves 17 counties in southwest Michigan from its five offices which are located in Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph.

LAWM - Ionia, Kent and Lake Counties
Services in Ionia, Kent and Lake Counties are provided by the Legal Aid of Western Michigan office in Grand Rapids as well as the Counsel and Advocacy Call Line (CALL).
Please contact the office for screening and intake. Generally, our attorneys speak with eligible clients by appointment only.
People living in or near poverty and Seniors in Ionia, Kent and Lake Counties may also use the Guide to Legal Help or call the CALL hotline at (888) 783-8190 if they do not have an open case with an attorney in this office.
LAWM - Montcalm County
Services in Montcalm county are provided through the Grand Rapids office.
Attorneys in this office see clients by appointment only. You can use the Guide to Legal Help or call the office for an intake.
*For the convenience of clients, appointments may be scheduled at the DHHS office. However, Attorneys are at this outreach site only to meet with people who have previously scheduled appointments. If no appointments were scheduled or the attorney has already met with those scheduled, he or she may not be present. By calling in advance, you will avoid wasting your time and travel going to a site only to find that the attorney is not available.
LAWM - Mecosta, Newaygo and Osceola Counties
Services in Mecosta, Newaygo and Osceola counties are provided through the Counsel and Advocacy Call Line (CALL) and Grand Rapids office.
Attorneys in this office see clients by appointment only.

Some matters will be handled by attorneys over the telephone.
In more complex matters, such as those where the attorneys believe that more extensive representation may be necessary and the case is one that Legal Aid of Western Michigan would handle, the case will be assigned to an attorney for an in-person meeting.
