Self Help Legal Resource Center

The Self-Help Legal Resource Center is designed to make information and forms more readily available to those who wish to represent themselves in court proceedings in Berrien County.  Although legal advice cannot be given, staff and volunteers are pleased to assist patrons with the procedural steps involved in filing court documents. While the assistance given at the Self-Help Legal Resource Center is free of charge, there is a small fee associated with some of the forms and copies.  Services provided include:

  • Do It Yourself Divorce Packets
  • Child Custody Packets
  • Child/Spousal Support Modification
  • Friend of the Court Opting Out
  • Objection to Referee’s Recommended Order
  • Revocation of Paternity
  • Personal Protection Orders
  • Landlord/Tenant
  • Small Claims
  • Garnishments
  • Guardianship (Incapacitated Individuals, Minor and Developmentally Disabled)
  • Small Estates, Informal and Formal Estates
  • Emancipation, Name Changes
  • Conservatorship for Minor/Adult; 
  • Motion Re: Visitation and Parenting Time
  • Attorney Grievance
  • Expungement

St. Joseph Office: Hours of Operation: M- F 8:30 a.m. — 4:30 p.m (Closed 12:00 - 1:00)

Niles Office (1205 N. Front St. in the South County Courthouse): Hours of Operation: 9 a.m. — 4:30 p.m (Closed 12:00 - 1:00), Wednesdays only.  Call the Niles office at (269) 983-7111 ext. 6202 with questions.
