The City of Detroit passed a law giving Detroit tenants the right to a free lawyer in eviction cases. To qualify, your household needs to make 200% or less of the Federal Poverty Line.
Right now, this program will provide you with a lawyer for your eviction case at the 36th District Court. To get a lawyer, you need to show up to your first court hearing. Pay attention to your notice from the court to see if you should show up in person or over Zoom. When you are at your hearing, ask to meet with a free legal aid lawyer.
