The mission of the Sault Ste. Marie Chippewa Tribal Court is to provide equitable and expedient resolution of conflict by the impartial administration of justice to ensure a safe community through strengthening our families and reducing crime.
Tribal Code currently provides that the Tribal Court has jurisdiction to hear the following types of cases: criminal, child welfare, juvenile delinquency, landlord-tenant, guardianship, civil garnishment, adoptions, conservation, torts, workers compensation, traffic, civil infraction, enforcement of foreign judgments, civil contempt, emancipation, general civil, and personal protection orders.
The Tribal Court exercises jurisdiction over its reservation lands, which are spread in a checkerboard fashion throughout seven counties in the Upper Peninsiula.
