If someone has property that belonged to the decedent, show them the notarized affidavit to get access to the property. For example, you may need to show it to a bank or the decedent’s landlord.
If a decedent had a bank account, take a copy of the affidavit along with a copy of the death certificate to the decedent’s bank. The bank should give you the money in the account. If the affidavit says more than one person is entitled to part of the account, it might be distributed as checks to each person entitled to a share.
If the decedent had property in an apartment or rented home, show the landlord a copy of the affidavit to collect the decedent’s personal property.
