Do-It-Yourself Answer to Eviction Complaint

Important: New court decision about rental licenses

Some cities require landlords to have a rental license or registration before they rent out a home. On October 22, 2026, the Michigan Court of Appeals decided that if your city requires a license or registration and your landlord does not have it, the lease is not valid. To find out if your city requires a rental license, you can do an internet search or call your city hall to ask.
