The Genesee County Legal Resource Center has staff on-site who are trained to help visitors use the Michigan Legal Help website. These staff members are called “navigators,” and they can help you access information about handling some kinds of legal matters without a lawyer.
In addition to the website, navigators can help visitors find instructions for completing their legal process, answer simple questions about forms that are available on the website, and find community resources that may help with your legal problem. Navigators can provide legal information, but not legal advice. Navigators welcome any and all questions and will let you know if your question is outside of what they can provide. If you need legal advice, please contact a lawyer. If you would like help finding a lawyer, please use the Guide to Legal Help.
The center also partners with local providers to offer in-person assistance:
Legal Aid of Eastern Michigan is available to offer legal assistance to qualifying individuals on non-criminal matters, no appointment required, on Mondays from 10 am to 3 pm.
The YWCA Greater Flint is at the Genesee County Courthouse to assist with the filing of Personal Protection Orders, no appointment required, on Mondays from 9 am to noon and Wednesdays from noon to 3 pm in Room 203.
