8th District Court - Crosstown Location - Kalamazoo

Generally, District Courts handle the following matters: landlord-tenant cases; land contract disputes; misdemeanor criminal offenses; civil lawsuits; small claims cases; civil municipal infractions; civil traffic infractions; and civil weddings.

The 8th District Court is a court of limited jurisdiction serving the County of Kalamazoo. The Court has three Divisions located at two Locations:

• The Criminal Division is located at the North Location; felony preliminary exams are heard and misdemeanor charges with a maximum penalty of 1 year in jail are adjudicated.*
• *The District Court Probation Department is located at the North Location. 
• The Civil Division is located at the Crosstown Location; civil law suits are handled and civil marriages are performed. 
• The Traffic Division is located at the Crosstown Location; traffic and non-traffic civil infractions are handled.
