The Alpena County Legal Self-Help Center is located in the lobby of the Alpena Courthouse at 720 W. Chisholm Street in Alpena. The Self-Help Center has court staff who are trained to help visitors use the Michigan Legal Help website. These staff members are called “navigators,” and they can help you access information about handling some kinds of legal matters without a lawyer.
In addition to the website, navigators can help visitors find instructions for completing their legal process, answer simple questions about forms that are available on the website, and find community resources that may help with your legal problem. Navigators can provide legal information, but not legal advice. Navigators welcome any and all questions and will let you know if your question is outside of what they can provide. Residents from any nearby county are welcome to come use computers to access the tools and resources on MichiganLegalHelp.org, including completing and printing court forms and other documents.
