New MLH Guide!

New MLH Guide!

Tuesday, October 24, 2017

This is a very exciting month at Michigan Legal Help! Last year we broke virtual ground on one of our most ambitious programs to date, the MLH Guide to Legal Help. After many months of hard work designing, programming, and testing this new program, we’re pleased to announce that the feature went live on our website at the beginning of the month and will be publically announced in the next few weeks!

The Guide to Legal Help directs all visitors to the most appropriate resources available to them throughout the state, from MLH content to external resources, including tailored lawyer referrals. The system uses advanced logic trees to help identify a visitor’s legal problem and what services they qualify for, then directs the user to the most appropriate resources to resolve their problem, given what is available in the community.

We hope you’ll give it a try, so you know what we’ve been working on and what visitors are likely to experience. There are several ways to access the Guide, including clicking the new red button on the home page titled "Guide to Legal Help". In the near future we will offer a webinar training on using the Guide, at which time we can address any questions you may have.

One important thing to note is that in the next few months, the "Find a Lawyer" feature will no longer produce a generic list of county resources. Rather, it will require visitors to use the Guide to identify their legal issue first. Once a user has completed the Guide, the tailor-made list of lawyers from the Guide will be listed under "Find a Lawyer" on whatever content pages they are viewing. Although this means a couple extra steps, the resulting list of lawyer referrals will no longer include services that are not relevant to their legal issue, or for which they do not qualify. We hope this will result in greater user satisfaction.

Thank you for your service to Michigan’s self-represented litigants!
